David Hockney's Tall trees after Hobbema is based on the latter The Avenue of Middelharnis. Hockney was intrigued for the ways Hobbema had directed the view, or rather views, of the observer both by positioning very tall trees right in front of the surface of the painting and by using linear perspective directing to the vanishing point at the end of the avenue.
