To create Tall Trees after Hobbema Hockney not only split up his landscape into multiple canvases, but also changed the outline of the bottom and top of the frames of the central pieces of his painting to enhance the effect of multiple perspective views. To say it in his own words: “Just chopping down off the corners has done wonders for me, because now I can compose well all the edges, in all sorts of ways too- and make space!
